About this place
After work, Haochi, a Sichuan restaurant in Itabashi, is an inviting place to drop in for boldly flavoured Chinese dishes and a cold drink. The unpretentious space has counter and table seating, making it easy to settle in for dinner alone or raise a glass with friends.
A natural place to start is the Otsukaresama set, an after-work option that lets you choose one drink, one appetiser and one dish. Pair a draft beer, sour or highball with small plates such as mapo tofu, chicken with chilli oil or dressed dried tofu, and you have the makings of a satisfying evening drink and meal. The mapo tofu has a pleasing tingle from its spices. It works as a companion to a drink, or spooned generously over rice for a hearty bowl.
There is a good range of dumplings and filling dishes, including handmade pan-fried gyoza with crisp, browned skins and chewy boiled dumplings filled with chives, shrimp and egg. For a more substantial meal, choose from savoury fried rice with mixed ingredients or garlic, spicy tantan noodles, and yakisoba piled with toppings.
From lunch through a leisurely evening meal, Haochi offers a varied selection of Sichuan dishes at approachable prices—a dependable neighbourhood Chinese restaurant.
